Heartland Challenge Startup Expo to Showcase Innovative Student Ventures

The 2023 Heartland Challenge Startup Competition presents the Startup Expo taking place on Apr 15, where 12 semi-finalist teams will be on display for the public to explore and engage with.

  • With a side of learning: Attendees can enjoy free food and drinks while learning about the participating startups and casting their vote for a $5,000 audience favorite prize.
  • Venture Journey: The Heartland Challenge simulates the process of raising venture capital for high-growth enterprises and is Arkansas's first global student startup competition. Since its virtual debut in Spring 2020, the competition has awarded over $350,000 to deserving startups.

U of A Receives International Acclaim for Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation

The University of Arkansas' Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation has been recognized as the Future Project of the Year 2023 by The Architectural Review, making it the sole North American project to earn an award from the esteemed panel of judges.

  • International spotlight: The project was chosen among sixteen projects from around the world, and is set to be presented June 8 at FOOTPRINT+, a zero-carbon property event in Brighton, England.
  • Model of sustainability: The Anthony Timberlands Center will be the first of its kind, a research center focused on the research and development of new wood products and new approaches in sustainable construction materials.

Network Mapping Study Identifies Strategies for Supporting Entrepreneurship in NWA

A new network mapping study from Endeavor Insight and the Walton Family Foundation sheds light on the strategies needed to continue the growth of Northwest Arkansas's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

  • Drivers: Entrepreneurial support organizations and institutional investors are providing more than two-thirds of all network connections, making them essential drivers of connectivity.
  • Connectivity: While founder-to-founder connectivity exists in NWA, support organizations can help build more of this infrastructure and create more formal and informal mentorship opportunities.
