Arkansas Public Theatre To Kick Off 37th Season

The Arkansas Public Theatre is kicking off its 37th season at the Victory Theater next month, and ticket sales for the first show open tomorrow (August 26)!

  • First show: The season will begin with a six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy, The Music Man. Performances will be September 16-18, 22-25, 29-30, and October 1-2, and tickets start at $25. 
  • Season lineup: Shows to expect in the coming year in addition to The Music Man are Almost, Maine; A Tuna Christmas; Little Shop of Horrors; Survival of the Unfit; The Shadow Box; Sylvia; and It Shoulda Been You.

August Sales Tax Revenue Report Shows Growth

Northwest Arkansas's sales tax revenue was up in August with a cumulative 16.57% gain from a year ago. 

  • Setting records: The August revenue report is generated from each city's 1% local sales tax collected on goods and services through June. The big four's combined revenue totaled $9.216 million, which is a monthly record for the region. 
  • By the city: The year-to-date report shows total revenue of $77.664 million, up 30.6% from the same period a year ago. From the same month last year, Fayetteville reported 18.14% growth, Bentonville reported 17.6% growth, Springdale reported 17.15% growth, and Rogers reported 14.29% growth.

Women of OZ to Host Sunset Summit

Next month, some of the nation's most prominent mountain biking ambassadors and industry leaders will be at the Momentary in Bentonville.

  • For women: Women of OZ is hosting the 2022 Sunset Summit on September 16-17 to teach the fundamentals of mountain biking while helping women build confidence, develop community, and encourage adventure in the mountain biking capital of the world. 
  • Who'll be there: The keynote speakers at the Sunset Summit are Anita Naidu, the first professional mountain biker of Indian heritage, and Lindsey Richter, the founder of Ladies AllRide and a previous Survivor contestant. Anneke Beerten, Bentonville resident and three-time world champion, will be an ambassador at the event.

Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice To Speak In Bentonville

Crystal Bridges

In a continued effort to provide opportunities to expand understanding of the American narrative, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will be hosting a suite of educational programming and inspiring talks from some of the United States’ prominent leaders. 

  • Big names: The former U.S. Secretaries of State Hilary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice, philanthropist and co-founder of The Carlyle Group David M. Rubenstein, and famed musician Yo-Yo Ma will present in-person programs at Crystal Bridges to celebrate and reflect on the historical exhibition, We the People: The Radical Notion of Democracy
  • Kick-off: Programming will begin over Constitution Weekend, September 16-17, and include talks, performances, art making, and gallery conversations. Some events are ticketed, while others will be free to attend.

Mayoral Openings In NWA

The U.S. general elections are coming up, and many local government positions are up for a vote. One role you might see people running to fill on your ballot is mayor, for there are multiple Northwest Arkansas cities with mayoral openings. 

  • Mayor seats: Northwest Arkansas cities with mayoral openings include Bella Vista, Cave Springs, Centerton, Elkins, Farmington, Goshen, Gravette, Highfill, Lowell, Tontitown, and West Fork. 
  • In the know: Voter information can be found on your county government’s website (Washington, Benton, Madison). The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11, but between now and then is perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with who you’ll vote for!
