College Engineering Students Teach Kids Computer Coding

Last month, over 100 computer science and engineering students from the University of Arkansas gave back to the community by teaching elementary kids the basics of computer coding.

  • Power hour: As part of the annual Computer Science Education Week, students of all grades at Butterfield Trail, Happy Hollow, and Root elementary participated in the Hour of Code program, learning introductory coding.
  • Role models: U of A student volunteers encouraged the kids' learning and hopefully inspired the next generation of computer scientists and engineers.

NWACC Receives Grant To Launch Trails Trade School

NorthWest Arkansas Community College has received an $8m grant on behalf of the Walton Family Foundation to develop a trade school program for trail building and maintenance.

  • New industry: The Trails Trade School will develop a workforce of certified trail technicians to serve our growing community's dependence on the network of regional trails for transportation and recreation.
  • Skilled: Along with gaining a certification in trail building and maintenance, Trails Trade School students can gain certification in NWACC's Bicycle Technician Program or earn an associate degree in Construction Technology.

Northwest Arkansas NASCAR Driver Sets Eyes On Daytona

Is that a Razorback out on the racetrack? Arkansas native Matt Wilson is driving hard for a chance to race in NASCAR's biggest race of the year, the Daytona 500.

  • Fast success: Wilson competes in NASCAR's ARCA Menards Series, and during his first season in 2022, he achieved one top-10 and two top-15 finishes.
  • Razorfast: Born in Hot Springs but currently residing in Northwest Arkansas, Wilson is proud to represent our state, and he hopes to follow in fellow Arkansan and NASCAR Hall-of-Famer, Mark Martin's tracks.
