Regional Road Running Races Coming Up In April

Two of the region's largest road running races are coming up next month with one in Bentonville and the other in Springdale.

  • Race 1: Run Bentonville Half Marathon a Northwest Arkansas premier running event is happening April 2. There will be a 5k course in addition to the half marathon, relay, and virtual options.
  • Race 2: Founded in 1977, the Hogeye Marathon is scheduled for April 9-10 in Springdale. April 9th will be the marathon, half marathon, & 4 person relay. April 10th will be the Sunday Fun Day 5k & 10k and the Hogeye Kids Run. If you’re not down to run, volunteers are wanted and welcome!

Lady Razorbacks Basketball Season Comes To An End

The Lady Razorback basketball season came to an end Friday, March 18, with a loss to Utah 92-69 in the NCAA Tournament.

  • Accomplishments: The Lady Razorbacks went 18-14 with several notable wins including one over LSU in the SEC and the season sweeps of rival Missouri and Mississippi State. Amber Ramirez had her final collegiate game against Utah and scored 24 points in the loss.
  • Adding to the record: This was the third straight season the Razorbacks qualified for the NCAA Tournament as well, making it the third time in history with such a stretch and the 13th appearance ever.

Wefunder, Startup Junkie, WeWork Labs To Host Startup Gathering

In celebration of the Northwest Arkansas and Tulsa startup ecosystems, Wefunder, Startup Junkie, and WeWork Labs are hosting a gathering at the Pryor Center in Fayetteville. 

  • Night to invest: The event will be on Tuesday, March 29 at 5:30p. The evening will include startup pitches and live investing in NWA and Tulsa-based startups raising capital on Wefunder. 
  • Joining community: The event is free and open to the public. The night will be great for networking as well as learning. Businesses and investors may also find this interesting as a way to invest locally.

NWA Mortgage Lending Declines After Season Of Refinancing

Despite the hot housing market in Northwest Arkansas, mortgage lending continues to decline after a season of refinancing. 

  • Report: Attom Data Solutions, a California company that tracks housing and foreclosure data, recently released its mortgage report for the Q4 of 2021. The report shows 6,560 mortgages secured by residential properties in the last three months of 2021, which is down 2.2% from Q3 2021. 
  • A trend: The mortgages secured include the three categories of conventional loans — purchasing, refinancing, and home equity. The quarterly drop marks the fifth consecutive drop since Q3 of 2020. However, homeownership in NWA stays consistent due to the region’s attraction.
