Home of Wood

Modus Studio

Adohi, a Cherokee phrase meaning woods or timber, is the name of one of the newer residence halls on campus at the U of A and is the first large-scale mass timber building in the nation. In addition, it recently was recognized with the AIA 2021 Specialized Housing award.

  • The deets: At more than 202,000 sqft and with room for 700 students, the facilities are a bold demonstration of sustainability with historic ties to the importance of forestry to the region.
  • Take me there: Envisioned as a cabin in the woods, the hall is a serpentine band of rooms framed with timber. The hall floats above courtyards as a circuitous path runs the site's length, passing beneath student rooms and coursing through the natural landscape.
