Education

Casey's General Store Grants $50,000 To Rogers Elementary School

Casey's General Store awarded four grants in Arkansas this year as part of the Cash for Classrooms grant program, and one of the recipients was Bonnie Grimes Elementary School in Rogers. 

  • For the kids: Overall, Casey's gave $1 million to 16 different states this year. Bonnie Grimes received $50,000 for a new inclusive playground so kids with disabilities can play and enjoy recess with their non-disabled friends. The other Arkansas grant recipients were a school band in Centerton, the Prairie Grove school district, and Howard Elementary in Fort Smith. 
  • Funding community: The Cash for Classrooms program is focused on giving back to communities and supports schools and nonprofit organizations supporting education. Grants range from $3,000 to $50,000 and fund everything from playgrounds to teacher development, new school tech, field trips, and more.

Ten NWA Entrepreneurs Begin Three Month Accelerator Program

Heartland Forward

Ten Northwest Arkansas entrepreneurs are entering a new cohort as a part of a three-month national idea accelerator program starting today. 

  • Innovators: The program is a part of the Heartland Forward initiative to put ideas into action in the mid-United States and is happening through a partnership with Builders + Backers. NWA participants will join individuals from nine other heartland cities to become "Builders." 
  • Making change: Ideas include an app to help women track and manage IVF treatments, a new podcasting solution for enterprise businesses, software designed to improve farming processes, a solution for converting regular bikes into electronic bikes, and much more.

2022 Freedom Festival Celebrating Juneteenth To Take Place At Shiloh Square

Juneteenth is approaching, and there are a few big ways to celebrate coming up in Northwest Arkansas.

  • Connections: Juneteenth is now a federal holiday commemorating the day all Americans became free. As a part of the community’s celebrations this weekend and to bring awareness, education, and exposure, the Second Annual Arkansas Black Film Showcase will be at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art today at 6p. 
  • For all to celebrate: On Sunday, June 19, is the 2022 Freedom Festival, a free Juneteenth celebration that will be held at Shiloh Square in downtown Springdale from 1-9p. The event will feature music by loved artists, free food, games, exhibits, giveaways, a wellness fair, and more
