May Is National Bike Month And NWA Is Ready To Roll

NWA Daily

May is National Bike Month and with it comes events, challenges, commutes, and races in Northwest Arkansas.

  • Tradition: Northwest Arkansas and its cycling advocate organizations have recognized National Bike Month for several years now. Home to the first ever UCI Bike City in the US, celebrating this month comes natural.
  • Involvement: You, friends, and co-workers can join the Bike Month Challenge running all month. The most known event is the Square 2 Square this Saturday, an adult learn to ride clinic in Bentonville, and then the Joe Martin Stage Race, the oldest continually held stage race in the U.S., will take place in Fayetteville May 19-22.

NWA Sees Increased Spending

NWA Daily

Sales tax reports are once again showing sizable increases over last year. This has been a consistent trend since late 2020, except in this report another factor became apparent - inflation.

  • $7.351M: The total combined sales tax revenue for Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale, and Fayetteville in "Aprils Report". This was up 25% from last Aprils numbers. This revenue is a reflection of a "1% local sales tax each city charged for goods and services in February."
  • New twist: All four major cities are seeing bumps in sales tax revenue, however, part of this can be "tied to inflationary prices". With higher costs across the board, we could see lower spending in the back half of the year.

You can read more about April's report from Talk Business & Politics, HERE.

Barnett's Dairyette In Siloam Celebrating 65 Years

Barnett's Dairyette

Barnett's Dairyette, a classic burger, shake, and ice cream joint in Siloam Springs, is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, and they're inviting everyone to the party on June 3rd.

  • A staple: Barnett's was opened in 1957 and became an integral part of summer fun in Siloam providing soft serve, shakes, and classic burgers. Siloam entrepreneur, Jacob Frese, took Barnett's over in 2017 and has been continuing the restaurant's rich history.
  • Celebrate good times: 65 years makes Barnett's one of the oldest restaurants in NWA still in operation, and that's cause for celebration! The team at Barnett's has put a great day together for anyone and everyone that wants to join in on the fun.
