Socks and Cookies

The 5th annual military 12 Needs of Christmas fundraiser hosted by local non-profit Socks and Cookies is underway.

  • The mission: Socks and Cookies is a non-profit based in Rogers dedicated to providing troops deployed overseas in all military branches little pieces of home in care packages.
  • You can contribute: Items include: black crew socks, cookies, coffee/water packets, snacks, playing cards, and lip balm. Drop off locations are at the Socks and Cookies office, Cooper Realty, and Hartz Pet Company in Bentonville.

Transportation

As a part of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) chose two projects in Northwest Arkansas that focus on alternative transportation to receive project funds. 

  • Projects: Fayetteville was awarded $500,000 to go toward the Clabber Creek Trail tunnel that will run under Hwy 112, and Springdale was awarded $100,000 for the 3rd phase of the Devil’s Trail.
  • Numbers: In sum, there were a total of 89 applications for TAP funds, and 48 for RTP funds. 59 projects were chosen for improvements or extensions totaling $11.5m investment in alternative infrastructure.

Art To Remember

NWA Daily

The Downtown Rogers Art on the Bricks Art Walk is today featuring art and music from military veterans, as well as artwork by local middle schoolers.

  • Military art: Musicians from the Soldiers Songs and Voices Northwest Arkansas will be performing during the event with a host of other pop-up galleries scattered across downtown Rogers.
  • The younger generation: Student portfolios from Greer Lingle Middle School will be on display at the pop-up in Ozark Talent Bank. The junior artists will be available to present their work and learn how it feels to host a gallery.

4 For All

All Cross

All bikes welcome - this Saturday (Nov. 13) kicks off a cyclocross race series that will be 4 races over 4 days in 4 cities in Northwest Arkansas.

  • Get ready: ALL Cross will begin in Fayetteville at Centennial Park and proceed over the next few months on unique courses in Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville. The events will feature short skill clinics and “micro-cross” races to accommodate all levels. 
  • Purpose: Spectators are encouraged to come and watch this family friendly event. Because cyclocross is about community and fun, each day of racing will have an after party as all events should.

Happy Anniversary CB!

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Today is the official day marking Crystal Bridges’ 10 year anniversary! Though the museum has already had a special exhibit to celebrate, starting today there will be 4 days of festivities for the occasion. 

  • Cheers: Today through Sunday there will be live music in the lobby, the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas will be playing in galleries, it will have a speakers series, and other family friendly activities.
  • From the beginning: After two years of being open, visitors of Crystal Bridges had surpassed one million people, and there have been no signs of attendance slowing.
