Theatre Squared - Scenic Technician (Carpenter)

The Scenic Technician is a member of the production department at TheatreSquared and reports to the Technical Director. This technician’s primary duties will be as a scenic carpenter or painter; building, loading, and striking scenery for all productions. The Scenic Technician will be assigned primarily to the scenic team within the production department where they will fulfill the majority of their hours. As needed they will also be assigned to work with the other areas of production (costumes, lights, sound, props, etc) as well as assigned to work on run crews. Between productions, technicians can expect to be working on organizational, maintenance, and repair projects. Scenic technicians may also be assigned to work with other departments and divisions at TheatreSquared including be not limited to: Events, Facilities, Company Management, and Community Experience.

As a key artist helping create shows that allow audience members to think beyond their lived experiences—and as a positive, collaborative member of an inclusive workforce—this position will help TheatreSquared answer the question, “How can a theatre be an agent of social change—helping foster a community that is fundamentally more equitable?”


  • Primarily work in the scene shop as a scenic carpenter reporting to the technical director.
  • Work in other areas of production as needed including lighting, audio, props, run crew, etc.  
  • Attend technical and dress rehearsals, previews and other rehearsals and performances as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean work/shop environment.
  • Uphold the policies and procedures outlined in TheatreSquared’s Employee Handbook.
  • Professionally represent TheatreSquared to outside personnel including visiting artists, patrons, and rental clients.


  • Proficiency in scenic carpentry
  • Previous experience working for a theatre or entertainment venue. Experience working in a regional theatre is preferred.
  • Strong candidates may have a particular focus in one area of production, but will have an understanding and willingness to work in other areas. (Ex: Primarily a scenic carpenter, but also familiar hanging and focusing lights)
  • Possess a desire to continue learning new subjects and techniques.
  • A willingness to adapt to a very flexible work schedule. 
  • Some focuses may require the ability to repeatedly lift, push, or maneuver up to 50lbs either alone or with assistance. May need to work at heights at times (ladders, personnel lift, catwalks).

Position is full time and non-exempt (qualifies for overtime pay), with an hourly rate of $17/hr. Relocation assistance will be available to those transitioning from an area outside of Northwest Arkansas.
