Benton County Sierra Club Plant Calls For Retirement To Reduce Air Pollution

After the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced plans to reduce harmful emissions of oxides of nitrogen, the coal-fired Sierra Club plant in Benton County called for its retirement. 

  • Clearing up: The EPA’s goal is to protect downwind states from the air pollution of upwind states, which will meet the Good Neighbor requirements in the Clean Air Act. According to the EPA, the reduction of pollution will prevent premature deaths, asthma attacks, and respiratory illness. 
  • Every little bit helps: The Benton County’s Sierra Club plant will contribute to the reduction of pollution, maintain the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards in downwind states, and make our community a safer place.
