A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday to kick off the remodel and repair of George Elementary School in Springdale, which sustained damage from the EF-3 tornado that came through NWA last March.

• Rethinking plans: A remodel was already in the works before the tornado, but it will now include tornado recovery work, bringing updates to the school's gym, library, kitchen, main office, and music classroom.
• Modern updates: The $11.2m remodel will be covered in part by insurance proceeds, district funds, and state partnership funding. Completion is set for August 2024.
