Carmelitas is still rolling out its soft opening, but the staff is already whipping up some incredible modern Mexican cuisine to serve in their laid-back environment and outside on their dog-friendly patio.

• Cali-flavors: Founded by Jeremy and Karla Putts, Carmelitas got its start catering weddings during the pandemic and quickly gained attention for its distinctive flavors inspired by San Diego roots; their antojeria menu combines traditional Mexican and Californian street food classics.
• Initial recs: We'll definitely be returning for more menu items, but our first trip has us pretty high on the Gorditas and Torta de Asada. Ask about the off-menu grilled street corn as an appetizer!
