NWA Teachers Named as Finalists for Presidential Awards for Excellence

Four teachers in NWA have been announced as state finalists for the presidential awards for excellence in mathematics and science teaching, which recognizes exceptional instructors who show a commitment to professional development and innovative teaching techniques in their classrooms. -NWA Democrat-Gazette

  • The math award finalists include Lindsay Hall of Bernice Young Elementary in Springdale and Tammy Toomey of Holt Middle School in Fayetteville.
  • The science award finalists are Stephanie Long of Walter Turnbow Elementary School and Lisa Taylor of Willis Shaw Elementary School, both in Springdale.
  • "To be selected as finalists for this national honor truly reflects the hard work and dedication of these exceptional teachers," said Johnny Key, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Education. -NWA Democrat-Gazette
  • A national committee will review and recommend up to 108 teachers to receive awards in math, science, and computer science. Winners will receive $10,000, a presidential citation, and a trip to Washington, DC.
