Proposed Legislation Will Allow Marshallese to Serve as Law Enforcement

Representative Megan Godfrey is drafting legislation to allow members of the Marshallese community to serve as local law enforcement.

  • The Marshallese Law Enforcement Act would allow non-Immigrant, non-U.S. citizens to serve as officers.
  • Springdale Police Department Public Information Officer, Jeff Taylor, said the department is behind on inclusion standards. “We are behind it wholeheartedly, it would help with our recruiting. It would not lower our standards, but it would be a great addition to our department." -5 News
  • Godfrey said she is adding additional sponsors to the bill before sending it to the Legislative Committee for review, and the bill should be heard in the State Agencies Committee next week. -40/29 News
