Two local nonprofits have helped make a way for single parents to pursue higher education for almost 40 years. On July 1, the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Benton County merged with the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas.
- Building up: In 1984, Benton and Washington county became the first Arkansas counties to offer higher education scholarships for single parents. Since then, the two organizations have contributed $15.3mm to single-parent families.
- More than money: The well-known local nonprofits are now uniting to give 20% more people access to better education, which includes counseling, emotional support, referrals, and help from their NWA neighbors who care.
