NWA Daily

The National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) awarded a first place prize to a professor of mathematics at the University of Arkansas for a specific teaching lesson.

  • Engagement: MoMath has an annual prize called the Rosenthal Prize for Innovation and Inspiration in Math Teaching to bolster creativity and engagement in the classroom. Along with the first place award, the U of A professor received a $25k cash prize.
  • Folding: Professors around the world submitted more than 100 lessons to the math museum for the Rosenthal Prize. The winning submission from the Fayetteville professor is a lesson on symmetry where students create “tiles” to fold symmetrically to then place together and create something similar to wallpaper.
